What does this mean?
The Prophet taught that whoever says this du'a upon waking and dies that day will be among the people of Paradise.
Waking up is an opportunity to begin a new day with the remembrance of Allah before anything else.
Important points to remember
- Say: 'Alhamdulillahil-ladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilayhin-nushur' (Praise be to Allah who gave us life after causing us to die, and to Him is the resurrection).
- It is recommended to wipe the face with both hands upon waking.
- Upon waking, perform wudu to prepare for Fajr prayer.
- If waking in the middle of the night, say 'La ilaha illallah' ten times for protection from distress.

When you wake up in the morning, say this du'a before doing anything else. It begins the day with gratitude to Allah.
