What does this mean?
The five obligatory prayers are Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha. Each brings us back to the remembrance of Allah throughout the day.
Prayer is obligatory for a sane Muslim who has reached puberty. Young children are taught gently over time to recognise the times, make wudu and love prayer.
Important points to remember
- Before praying, be clean, cover the awrah, face the qiblah and make sure the prayer time has begun.
- In the Shafi'i school, intention is in the heart and accompanies the opening takbir.
- A person who can recite Al-Fatihah must recite it in every rakah.
- Standing is required in an obligatory prayer for one who can stand; movements should be calm and unhurried.
An everyday example
At home, school or work, we organise our time, prepare properly and pray according to our ability. Details can be learned gradually with a teacher.
In shortThe five prayers keep us mindful of Allah from morning until night.
