What does this mean?
'Qadr' means power, greatness, or destiny. Laylat al-Qadr means the Night of Power or Destiny.
The Prophet instructed to seek Laylat al-Qadr on the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan (21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, or 29th).
Important points to remember
- Worship on this night is better than worship for a thousand months (about 83 years).
- Recommended acts include praying, reciting the Quran, making du'a, and seeking forgiveness.
- The Prophet taught a du'a for this night: 'Allahumma innaka Afuwwun Tuhibbul-Afwa Fa'fu Anni' (O Allah, You are the Pardoner, You love to pardon, so pardon me).
- The night has a special peace, neither hot nor cold, and the sun of the following morning rises gentle and not harsh.
