What does this mean?

Travel is a situation humans cannot fully control. Trusting Allah (tawakkul) is the best approach.

The Prophet taught specific duas for travel, including saying takbir (Allahu Akbar) when ascending.

Important points to remember

Upon boarding a vehicle, say 'Bismillah,' then 'Subhanal-ladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin, wa inna ila Rabbina lamunqalibun' (Glory to Him who subjected this to us, though we could never have accomplished it, and to our Lord we are returning).
When returning, add: 'A'ibuna ta'ibuna 'abidun li-Rabbina hamidun' (Returning, repenting, worshiping our Lord, praising Him).
It is recommended to gather travelers at the end of the night (a time of blessing).
When ascending, say 'Allahu Akbar' (Allah is the Greatest); when descending, say 'Subhanallah' (Glory to Allah).

An everyday example

Before getting in a car or plane, say the travel du'a. You'll feel calm and confident, especially on long journeys.
