Part of believing in the revealed scriptures (the 3rd pillar of Iman) is knowing the four main books Allah sent down to humanity through His prophets.

What does this mean?
Allah revealed scriptures to many prophets throughout history, but four are named explicitly in the Quran and every Muslim should know them: the Torah, the Psalms (Zabur), the Gospel (Injil), and the Quran.
The first three were revealed for the nation and era of each prophet, and their texts were altered or lost over time. The Quran is the final scripture, and Allah Himself guarantees its preservation from any change until the Day of Judgment.
Important points to remember
- The Torah (Tawrat) — revealed to Prophet Musa (Moses), as guidance and light for the Children of Israel.
- The Psalms (Zabur) — revealed to Prophet Dawud (David), largely praise and supplication to Allah.
- The Gospel (Injil) — revealed to Prophet Isa (Jesus), as guidance and light, confirming the Torah that came before it.
- The Quran — revealed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the final scripture that confirms and seals all previous revelation, and the most reliable guidance for humanity until the end of time.
- Muslims believe in the truth of all four books as originally revealed, but follow the Quran alone in practice, since it is complete and untouched by any alteration.
An everyday example
When a Jewish or Christian friend mentions their scripture, a Muslim can explain that Islam also believes in the original Torah and Gospel — but holds the Quran as the final revelation that confirms and seals Allah's true message.
In shortThe four books to know: the Torah (Musa), the Psalms (Dawud), the Gospel (Isa), and the Quran (Muhammad ﷺ) — the last of which Allah preserves forever.
