What does this mean?
The word 'Quran' comes from 'qara'a,' meaning to read or recite. Thus, the Quran means 'that which is recited.'
The Quran has 114 Surahs (chapters), divided into 30 Juz' (parts). It is the unchanged word of Allah for over 1400 years.
Important points to remember
- Surahs are classified as Makkan (revealed in Mecca before Hijrah) and Madinan (revealed in Medina after Hijrah).
- Reciting the Quran is an act of worship; every letter recited earns 10 good deeds.
- You must have wudu when touching the Mushaf (physical book), but can recite from memory without wudu.
- Start with the short Surahs in Juz' 30 (such as Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, An-Nas), then gradually expand.
An everyday example
Start reading the Quran for 5-10 minutes daily after Fajr, beginning with short, easy-to-memorize Surahs. Gradually build it into a regular habit.
In shortThe Quran is Allah's guidance. Read as much as possible, even a little every day, which is better than reading a lot occasionally.
